The ingredients used in the Mighty Kids products are of the highest quality and always sourced responsibly.
Our supplements are GMO free, soy free, sugar free, vegan, allergen free, gentle, and they contain no artificial colours, flavourings or bulking agents. All of our products also go through regular, rigorous third-party testing, so we can ensure that it stays this way.
We are committed to complete transparency, so as well as the full ingredient list for each product which is detailed below (and always available on our website), we're answering the most common questions on what everything is, and most importantly, what it all does!
Flavouring
You are likely to see "Natural Flavouring" on the ingredient list for several Mighty Kids products. Designing our supplements with little taste buds in mind, it was important to us to keep these tasty and familiar, so that supporting your child with their health doesn't have to be a struggle.
"Natural Flavouring" is simply natural fruit flavouring extracted from the actual fruit on the labelled flavour (apple, mango or berries in the case of our Magnesium, dragon fruit for the Multivitamin, and apple or orange for the Vitamin C).
Preservation
For the majority of our products, we advise that opened bottles should be refrigerated and consumed within two months. The only exception to this is the Vegan Omega-3, which should not be refrigerated, and we advise consuming within 10 weeks of opening. The omega is not liposomal, and contains no preservatives. To keep our other supplements staying fresh for so long, they are preserved with the extracts of two plant-based ingredients:
- Rosemary
- Sea buckthorn
These are natural preservatives that protect against spoilage due to their high antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.
Rosemary, most commonly known as a herb, is particularly rich in compounds such as carnosic acid, which prevents oxidation and microbial growth. Carnosic acid is the specific component we extract from this herb; the whole plant is not used. Therefore, if you cannot take rosemary, it may be suitable, depending on what you are trying to avoid and why. Do still avoid if epileptic!
Sea buckthorn, packed with antioxidants and fatty acids, inhibits lipid oxidation. Together, they work well to stabilise the shelf life of Mighty Kids vitamins, keeping them fresh and effective for at least two months after opening.
It can be noted that in ideal conditions, our products have been tested to last much longer than the stated 2 months. If care is taken to follow storage instructions and keep bacteria out of the bottle, use may be continued for longer than this at your own discretion, checking for any changes in scent or taste. We do still advise using opened bottles within their best before dates, however, and as Mighty Kids Supplements are designed for the whole family, this recommended time frame of consumption is unlikely to present a problem!
Phospholipids
These are what makes Mighty Kids supplements liposomal, and so much more effective. They enhance bioavailability of the vitamins contained, and allow for the maximum benefits for your and your child's health.
Our liposomal delivery system uses liposomes derived from sunflowers, these are fatty bubbles that encapsulate the vitamins and minerals. This is not the same as sunflower oil, which is derived using very different techniques and affects the body differently. For more information on how liposomal delivery works, take a look at this Mighty Kids article, that explains The Fascinating World of Liposomal Supplements in more depth.
Other ingredients used
- Malic Acid:
This is an organic compound which occurs in fruits and vegetables. It is used in the Magnesium formula as it naturally attaches to minerals and helps the body bring that nutrient through the gut and absorb it properly.
- Citric Acid Monohydrate:
This is a preservative and stabiliser for pH regulation of the formula.
- Glycerol:
In Mighty Kids supplements, glycerol is the carrier for the nutrients and has 2 main properties:
It is antimicrobial, so we do not have to use ethanol and it acts almost as a “liposome for the liposomes” in that it increases the stability of the liposomes. It also helps to increase the shelf life of the products.
Glycerol is approved as an ingredient in food supplements under the EFSA, and there are no regulatory bodies that have set any legal top levels for glycerol because it has not been shown to be a risk for toxicity and shows no evidence of reproductive, genotoxic/mutagenic, or carcinogenic effects. Further to this guidance which is for food grade glycerol, we go beyond and use only pharma grade glycerol which must adhere to higher purification measures, and is used in hospitals, including in paediatric settings.
